How The World Of Tourism Invites 2021 Global Preparedness
It would not be an exaggeration to say that in the last twelve months of surprising crisis. Tourism sector bore the brunt of the covid-19 virus as the most severe casualty after human life. The tourism sector was first hit, the worst hit, and as predicted, it will take the longest possible time to recover. Globally, as per reports of world travel and tourism council (WTTC), Total loss of revenue incurred is USD 3815 Billion, likely rise to USD 4711, down 53% of travel and tourism GDP.
IMPACT ASSESSMENT
According to WTTC survey, it is estimated that 142.6 million jobs are lost by September 2020 world wide.
UNWTO & WTTC Region-specific studies assess 65% drop global international arrivals owing to the pandemic & resultant travel restrictions due to sealed borders. Domestic arrivals are down by average 33% globally, 31% in Asia pacific region & 33% in South America. Tourism provides a significant contribution to GDP in several countries. In many countries where the economy revolves only around tourism, effect cascades across other sectors, in unemployment, poor - performance to allied and ancillary industries, particularly in civil aviation.
GLOBAL SENTIMENT ON MITIGATING THE CRISIS
According to UNWTO, 167 out of the 2020 countries analysed, had undertaken specific steps for crisis mitigation, and faster recovery, among these, more than 144 nation implemented and monetary policies while 100 had policies supporting jobs and training. The major policies are as follows;
FINANCIAL MEASURES TO AID REVIVAL
Business need to explore alternate market, destination & product reorienting their business models in the direction of digital and green tourism
USA: allocates $2.2 trillion economic relief package to public health and economic impact on covid-19
FINLAND: grants up EVR 100000, have been reserved for innovative tourism solutions.
FRANCE: EUR 18 billion to the tourism sector
ICELAND: 18 billion investment acceleration initiative covers infrastructure in national parks and large tourism sites.
INDIA: hospitality and tourism are among twenty-six covid -stressed industries identified by an expert committee appointed by the reserve bank of India.
NON FINANCIAL SUPPORT TOWARDS REVIVAL
Measures taken by various countries digital complain, advisory services, enhanced medical awareness, helplines and support service reassure travellers of a better experience and boost confidence.
HEALTH PROTOCOLS & SAFETY MEASURES
Travel associated health risk overarches the benefit of a leisurely vacation.
USA: developed in collaboration with medical & industry experts US travel industry will need to adapt to allow safe resumption to travel.
CONFIDENCE - BOOSTED BY HOTELS
It is the key determiners for Gene ring business, hospitality chains are implementing measures
•MARRIOTT has creat Marriott global cleanliness council
•TAJ HOTEL has launched Tajnek- A Commitment Restrengthened’; a framework of safety and hygiene protocols in accordance with WHO and FSSAI norms.
Travellers are drawn to joint cross-border projects and strong global funding aimed at accelerating the recovery of tourism. With the growth of offbeat destinations, hitherto untapped markets and tourism goods, the crisis has catalysed migration towards new, resilient types of tourism. In the vast outdoors, national parks and wildlife sanctuaries are already used as secure destinations, with occupancy registered by hotels within game reserves as high as 80%.
Domestic tourism is resurging;' Staycations' is the buzzword; Work From Home is in a technology-enabled qualitative work world redefined as Work From Hotel. The first ray of hope for international tourism is seen as cracking the horizon with successful vaccination trials already underway. I take the liberty of expanding the theme of Atmanirbhar Bharat to include the globe on an ambitious note for the future of the global tourism industry, with a vision.
